Walt Builds.

A forward deployed engineer, based in Oxford.

If you searched "forward deployed engineer near me" from Oxford or anywhere in North Mississippi, this is the local answer. I embed with your team, scope the problem where it lives, build against your real systems, and deploy software into your environment that you own outright.

Contract and fixed-scope. Remote across the United States, on site in North Mississippi. A person you can call at (662) 292-5533.

How an engagement runs.

Scope inside your walls
I start where the work is: your systems, your data, the people who run the process today. A few days on site or on calls, and we agree on exactly what ships.
Build against the real thing
No sandbox demo. The code runs in your accounts, talks to your actual QuickBooks, EHR, booking system, or database, and gets tested by the staff who will use it.
Deploy, then hand over
It goes live in your environment with your credentials. You get the repository, the documentation, and a person who answers the phone after launch.

Work that already fit the job.

Inside a clinic's own cloud account
A behavioral health practice needed intake that handles sensitive information the way a clinic should. I built it inside their AWS account under a signed agreement, on infrastructure they own, and the practice calls one person when anything changes.
A new front door on a fifty-year-old engine
An assessment company runs a scoring engine their clients have logged into for years. I rebuilt the public site and built a new front door that hands real logins straight to the existing engine. Nothing their clients depend on was touched.
Estimates that land in the office
A construction company's website now routes project intake to the sales team's inboxes with nothing re-typed. Built against how the office already works, not how a template assumed it would.
A shipped product, start to store
Hunt Time, my own iOS app for hunting clubs, went from first commit to App Store submission in seventeen days: backend, web, iOS, payments, and push. That's the pace an embedded engineer is paid for.

Live sites and products are on the work page. The code behind the open-source tools is on GitHub.

Questions.

What is a forward deployed engineer?
A software engineer who works inside the customer's business instead of at a vendor's office. Scopes the problem on site, builds against real systems and real data, deploys into the customer's environment, and owns whether it works. Half engineer, half consultant, full owner. The role started at Palantir and is now one of the fastest-growing titles in tech.
Do you take forward deployed engineer contracts?
Yes. Fixed-scope engagements or a defined block of weeks, quoted before work starts. Remote anywhere in the United States, on site across North Mississippi, and I'll travel for the scoping days when it matters. Not open-ended hourly seats.
How is that different from a consultant?
A consultant hands you a plan and someone else builds it. I write the production code and I'm accountable for it running. When the honest answer is that you don't need software built, you get that answer too, but you never get a deck without a builder behind it.
How is that different from an agency?
You talk to the person writing the code. No account manager, no handoff, no junior team behind the curtain. One senior builder with an agency-grade toolchain and a fixed quote.
Who hires one?
Companies with a system to ship and no engineer to own it. Startups that need AI or an integration built into a customer's environment. Local businesses that want AI put to work on real intake, scheduling, or paperwork instead of another subscription.
What does it cost?
Scoped and quoted fixed before work starts. One number in writing. The first conversation is free and usually tells you whether the project is worth doing at all.

Tell me the system that needs to ship and who runs it today. I'll tell you what it takes.
